spark plugs...standard vs iranium

What's the big difference?  Is there a performance reason to go with the more expensive iranium?

    I used the NGK iridium because they were recommended by Merc. They have been fine in my 6.2MAG.

    Yeah Cableguy...that's what I saw too.  I put standard plugs in last spring and I'm concerned I did something wrong.  Mine is a 2002 not sure if the recommendation goes back that far.

    Please post where Mercruiser recommended the NGK Iridium plug.  I can not find any service bulletins or advisories stating this.  Maybe it is out there and I missed it

    Maybe I read the parts catalog wrong. I take it the Blue is the current part and the one below is the one that the blue superseded.

    AC Delco. 41-993  .060 gap.   MPI.  Carbs get AC Delco 41-933 .045 gap.

    So @Alswagg - What makes you use Iranium plugs?  Is it performance reasons or longevity?

    I guess that's my real question here

    We change plugs every 500 hrs.  We use what is recommended by Merc
